March 3rd Hinamatsuri3月3日@ひなまつり March3rd –the season of the peach blossom, 桃の花が咲く頃の3月3日。 This day is a special day called “Hinamatsuri” (also called Girl’s day or Doll’s day), to pray and celebrate for the growth of girls. It is also called “Momo no sekku” (means peach festival). On this day, families with girls set up the “Hina ningyo” (special doll for this day), eat snack called “Hina Arare” or “Chirashi-zushi” (Sushi-rice topped with raw fish and other lucky ingredients), drink sweet sake, and celebrate the special day. Setsubun (Bean- Throwing Festival) at monokoto storeモノコトストア@節分 Setsusbun, the traditional custom is not a national holiday but widely celebrated throughout Japan on February 3rd. Traditionally, people throw roasted soy beans throughout their home or schools, shouting “oni wa soto” (demons, out!) and “fuku wa uchi” (Good luck, in!). During Setsubun, one member of the family (normally the father) or teachers (if at school) will dress as an oni (demon) and children throw the beans at the oni to drive away evil spirits and bad luck.
